III MEF Change of Command Ceremony

U.S. Marines assigned 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit, conduct routine operations and integrated training with the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group off the coast of California, July 13, 2026. The U.S. Marine Corps has chartered the MATILDA 1, a contractor-owned/contractor-operated Stern Landing Vessel (SLV), to support service-level modernization and littoral experimentation. During the initial charter period, the vessel will operate across a broad geographic range including the West Pacific an Oceana. As a purpose-built SLV, the MATILDA 1 utilizes a shallow-draft design and specialized stern ramp to enable capability sets—comprising both personnel and equipment—to land directly on diverse shorelines. This provides a vital maneuver and sustainment link in shallow coastal waters that operates independently and is distinct from traditional amphibious operations.

The new Marines of Lima Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, graduated from Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, July 10th 2026. Graduation took place at the completion of the 13-week transformation which included training for drill, marksmanship, basic combat skills, and Marine Corps customs and traditions. Following graduation, the Marines were given 10 days of leave before taking the next step in training at the School of Infantry at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California.
