U.S. Marines bring advanced manufacturing to the front lines during Valiant Shield 26
A Configurable Budget Autonomous Swarming Submersible operates during Valiant Shield 26 at White Beach, Okinawa, Japan, June 29, 2026. C-BASS is a developmental unmanned underwater vehicle used for collecting bathymetry to support beach landing operations. Marines from 9th Engineer Support Battalion, 3rd Marine Logistics Group; 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion, 3rd Marine Division; 3rd Intelligence Battalion, III Marine Expeditionary Force; and U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Pacific, participated in operator training led by Department of Navy civilians from Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock. The training was part of Resilient Advanced Manufacturing for Contested Environments, or RAMFORCE, an initiative hosted by the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering. The innovative event brought together military personnel, government laboratories, and private industry to evaluate how advanced manufacturing technologies could enable expeditionary forces to repair, replace and even produce critical equipment at the point of need.
