Sergeant Major Charles R. Williams

Sergeant Major Williams was born in Atmore, AL.  Upon graduation from Escambia County High School in Atmore, AL, he enlisted into the Marine Corps on September 16, 1993 and attended MCRD Parris Island, SC. 

 Private Williams graduated boot camp on December 10, 1993.  Upon graduation, he was assigned to Meridian, MS for MOS training as an Aviation Operation Specialist.  Upon graduation from MOS school in March 1994, Private First Class Williams was assigned to 2D LAAD Bn, Cherry Point, NC as an Operations Clerk.  In September 1994, Private First Class Williams deployed as an individual augment in support of OPERATION SEA SIGNAL with Joint Task Force 160 at Guantanamo Bay Cuba.  Lance Corporal Williams returned to 2D LAAD Bn in March 1995 to assume his duties as the Bn Operations Clerk.  He was meritoriously promoted to Corporal on December 2, 1995.

 In July 1996, Corporal Williams was transferred to Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron-1, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, Okinawa, JA where he was assigned as the assistant Ops Admin Chief G-3.  While assigned to 1st MAW he participated in training exercises in South Korea, and Australia.  He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant on February 1, 1997. 

 Upon completion of his overseas tour in August 1997, Sergeant Williams reported to Marine Wing Support Squadron 273, MCAS, Beaufort, SC for duty as the Air Operations Chief.  In March 1999, Sergeant Williams received orders to Drill Instructor School at MCRD Parris Island, SC.  Upon graduation he was assigned to 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, Fox Company.  During his assignment he served as a Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, Series Gunnery Sergeant, and Company Operations Chief.  He was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant on December 1, 2000.  Staff Sergeant Williams was meritoriously promoted to Gunnery Sergeant on July 2, 2002. 

 In August 2002, Gunnery Sergeant Williams reported to Marine Forces Atlantic, Norfolk, VA where he was assigned as the Company Gunnery Sergeant for Headquarters & Service Company.  In December 2003, Gunnery Sergeant Williams was selected for duty as an Assistant Marine Officer Instructor (AMOI) for Hampton Roads Naval ROTC Consortium consisting of Old Dominion University, Norfolk State University, and Hampton University.  As an AMOI, Gunnery Sergeant Williams mentored, trained, and developed future Naval, and Marine Corps Officers.  Gunnery Sergeant Williams was a Sergeant Instructor at Officer Candidate School during the summer of 2004.

 In April 2006, Gunnery Sergeant Williams received orders to 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, Okinawa, JA where he served as G-3 Current Operations Chief, Training Officer, and Marine Wing Liaison Kadena Operations Chief.  Gunnery Sergeant Williams was promoted to First Sergeant on January 1, 2008 and was assigned to 7th Communications Battalion, Okinawa, Japan Camp Hansen where he served as Company First Sergeant for Company A, and Headquarters & Service Company.

In January 2009, First Sergeant Williams was transferred to 2d Marine Division, 2d Marine Regiment, and assigned to Weapons Company, 2d Battalion, 2d Marines.  From October 2009 to May 2010, he deployed to Garmsir District of Helmand Province, Afghanistan in support of OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM 09.2.  In March 2011 he deployed with Battalion Landing Team 2/2, 22D MEU in support of OPERATION UNIFIED PROTECTOR, and 5th & 6th Fleet Landing Operations.  First Sergeant Williams was selected to Sergeant Major in November 2011, he received orders to Yuma, AZ and was “frocked” in May 2012.  In June 2012 Sergeant Major Williams assumed the duties and responsibilities as the Squadron Sergeant Major for Marine Attack Squadron 214.  In June 2013 he deployed with the squadron to Okinawa Japan in support of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit. 

In June 2015 Sergeant Major Williams was selected to attend Marine Corps University, Command and Staff College.  Upon graduation in June 2016, he received orders to Marine Corps Base Quantico where he served as the Base Sergeant Major until May 2018.

Sergeant Major Williams is currently serving as the Sergeant Major for Marine Corps Installations Command.

Sergeant Major Williams’ personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Combat V and four gold stars in lieu of fifth award, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one gold star in lieu of second award, Combat Action Ribbon, and Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.
