Master Gunnery Sergeant Lance C. Baughman

Hailing from Milledgeville, Illinois, MGySgt Baughman entered the delayed entry program on May 30, 1990. He enlisted and was sent to Marine Corp Recruit Depot-San Diego California (MCRD-SD) for recruit training on May 29, 1991. A contract PFC, he was assigned the Military Occupational Specialty of Main Battle Tank Repairer (2146).

In August 1991, PFC Baughman reported for Marine Combat Training aboard Camp Pendleton. Upon completion, he reported to the United States Armor Center, USMC Detachment, Fort Knox, KY in October of 1991 to begin training as an M1A1 Main Battle Tank Repairer. In February of 1992, he was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal. 

In March 1992, Lance Corporal Baughman reported to Camp Lejeune, North Carolina and was assigned as a Main Battle Tank Repairer to H&S Company 2nd Tank Battalion. Within six months, he was transferred to Bravo Company, 2nd Tank Battalion where he served as a platoon mechanic. In June of 1993, he was promoted to the rank of Corporal and went on to serve as a platoon mechanic. In December of 1994, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and served as the Company Maintenance Chief, a billet normally reserved for the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. During this tour, he participated in multiple Combined Arms Exercises and participated in three large scale unit deployments.

In April 1998, Sergeant Baughman received orders and reported to the United States Army Armor Center, USMC Detachment, Fort Knox, KY for duty as a Main Battle Tank Repair Instructor.  During this tour, he also served as the Curriculum Developer for the Detachment and was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant in February of 1999. 

In January 2001, Staff Sergeant Baughman received orders to the Instructional Management School, Camp Pendleton for duty as a Platform Instructor for the Train the Trainer Course. In January 2003, he was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. 

In February of 2003, Gunnery Sergeant Baughman reported to H&S Company, 1st Tank Battalion, 1st Marine Division, Twentynine Palms California to serve as the Battalion Maintenance Ramp Chief and immediately deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Enduring Freedom/Operation Iraqi Freedom.  Upon his return, he reported to Bravo Company where he served as the Company Maintenance Chief. In this capacity, he again deployed to Fallujah, Iraq in April 2004 and once more to Al Asad, Iraq in September of 2005. 

Upon his return from Iraq in April 2006, Gunnery Sergeant Baughman reported to Inspector and Instructor staff, 4th Tank Battalion, 4th Marine Division, Miramar California. While there he simultaneously served as the Battalion Maintenance Chief and the Company Maintenance Chief for Company A, 4th Tank Battalion aboard Camp Pendleton.  He was promoted to the rank of Master Sergeant in February of 2008. During his tenure at 4th Tank Battalion, he deployed a fourth time to Al Asad, Iraq in May of 2008.  

In May 2009, Master Sergeant Baughman reported to 3D Assault Amphibian Battalion, 1st Marine Division, Camp Pendleton California for duty as the Assistant Battalion Maintenance Chief. During his tour, he was selected to be the Ground Ordnance Maintenance Chief for the I Marine Expeditionary Force (MEF) Forward (FWD) staff. Prior to deploying to Afghanistan, in March 2012, Master Sergeant Baughman was frocked to the rank of Master Gunnery Sergeant. During this deployment, he also served as the Senior Enlisted Advisor to the I MEF FWD C4.

Upon his return in March 2013, Master Gunnery Sergeant Baughman was reassigned from 3D Assault Amphibian Battalion to the I MEF G4 where he served as the Ground Ordnance Maintenance Chief. 

 

In April 2015, Master Gunnery Sergeant Baughman reported to Headquarters Marine Corps, Deputy Commandant for Installations and Logistics where he was assigned as the Occupational Field Specialist for the 21XX Military Occupational Specialty community. In March of 2017, he was selected to also serve as the Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Deputy Commandant for Installations and Logistics, one of the positions he currently serves today.

His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with two gold stars in lieu of third award, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Combat V, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with three gold stars in lieu of fourth award, and the Combat Action ribbon.

 

 

MGySgt Baughman holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Leadership from Ashford University and a Master of Science in Business Strategy, Management, and Leadership from Michigan State University.
